Honda and GoCimo to Begin European Test of Station-Based Battery Swap Service
Press Release: Stockholm, Sweden, November 5, 2024 - GoCimo (formerly known as GoCiklo) and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (Honda) have decided to jointly test Honda’s system for station based battery swapping for the European market.
The test will take place in Malmö, Sweden, with three battery swap stations (Honda Power Pack exchanger e:), 60 batteries (Honda Mobile Power Pack e:) and 30 mopeds (Honda EM1e:) and continue for 1 year. The mopeds will be used by customers of GoCimo.
Honda has already launched the system in Japan, India, Indonesia, and Thailand. The project with GoCimo will be the first time the system is tested in Europe. Honda and GoCimo will also evaluate the potential for a long-term partnership for the European market.
GoCimo was established in 2022 to address rising emissions and traffic congestion in the delivery and transportation industries, driven by the growth of the urban logistics market. So far, GoCimo has operated station based battery swapping services in two Swedish cities (Stockholm and Gothenburg) and will in Q1 2025 enter additional two cities, outside of Sweden.
With this initiative together with GoCimo, Honda aims to promote the electrification of motorcycles and the widespread use of swappable batteries in Europe by expanding the use of Honda products, mainly for business users, in major European cities, thus supporting the electrification of mobility and contributing to the realization of a low-carbon society.
